An otherwise successful burglary was botched when the perpetrator felt compelled to photograph himself wearing the homeowner’s new coat, holding cash stolen from the homeowner’s son. He posted the photograph to the son’s facebook page in an apparent show of bravado that, in reality, was nothing more than pure stupidity. The homeowner turned out to be a newspaper reporter who blogged about it, and the self-portrait will be used to convict the burglar, effectively eliminating any argument that his attorney might otherwise have been able to make about mistaken identity.
