Serial Burglar Arrested in Montgomery County

On June 22, Whitemarsh Township police arrested 47-year-old Edward Barnes, Jr., while he was allegedly breaking into a home. According to police this was not Barnes’ first time burglarizing…he is suspected of being a serial burglar who has broken into more than 20 homes in Whitpain Township, Conshohocken, Plymouth Township and Northeast Philadelphia in the past 15 months. Some of the homeowners were actually inside their homes when they were burglarized. Upon searching his house on Cottman Avenue, police seized jewelry and electronics believed to be stolen. He is being held on $100,000 bail. Burglary of a residence is a felony of the first degree in Pennsylvania, punishable by up to twenty years in prison.
