Eligible for medical marijuana? Soon you can find it even closer to home. A medical marijuana dispensary was approved to open in Horsham at 255 Horsham Rd. through CB Health Services, LLC. The location will have six months to meet the state’s standards and get up and running before they may begin dispensing medical marijuana. Governor Wolf signed medical marijuana into law in 2016.  The administration’s goal is to “ensure more people have access to medical marijuana close to home,” says Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine.

Montgomery County has over 100 approved physicians you can visit to be approved for medical marijuana; click here to see the full list.

Along with the new dispensary in Horsham, the state of Pennsylvania approved 22 other dispensaries in December. Since 2016, 98,000 patients in Pennsylvania have registered for the medical marijuana program. In addition, over 66,000 of those have identification cards, making them eligible to purchase medical marijuana at a dispensary. Finally, 945 physicians have been approved as practitioners registered for the program.

To be eligible for medical marijuana in PA, you must have a “serious medical condition.” In addition, patients must register for an ID card and use that card at Pennsylvania dispensaries. Caregivers can also be  designated by patients to deliver medical marijuana to the patients, provided caregivers register for an ID card and complete a background check.

In Pennsylvania, approved forms of medical marijuana include:

  • Pill;
  • Oil;
  • Topical forms, including gel, creams, or ointments;
  • Tincture;
  • Liquid; and
  • A form medically appropriate for administration by vaporization or nebulization, including dry leaf or plant form for administration by vaporization

Note that smoking is not a legal manner of ingesting medical marijuana in Pennsylvania.
