Stephen M. Geday, a Partner with Fairlie & Lippy, is a highly experienced and decorated trial attorney. He has been consistently designated as one of the top attorneys in the region by a wide spectrum of the most authoritative recognition entities in the legal industry. He has consistently been named a SuperLawyer Rising Star in every year since 2014. Only 2.5% of attorneys in Pennsylvania receive this designation in any given year, and even fewer do so consistently for multiple consecutive years. For the same years, he was awarded “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” by the National Trial Lawyers. He is a recipient of the illustrious ranking of “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, based on a peer rating by qualified attorneys of the highest level of professional excellence. He was also selected as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by both the National Trial Lawyers and the American Society of Legal Advocates in 2012 and 2013. With over a decade of legal experience and having handled over 1000 cases before judges and juries alike, Mr. Geday is an extremely seasoned litigator. He is a former Assistant District Attorney, having worked in the Trials Division in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Prior to entering private practice, he prosecuted offenses ranging from homicide, drug offenses, sex offenses, and assaults, to economic crimes, retail theft, and DUI. Having worked in the Sex Crimes Unit as a prosecutor, Mr. Geday became a specialist in handling the most sensitive and exacting of cases. Mr. Geday has been asked to conduct a multitude of speaking engagements and trainings addressing diverse audiences. Mr. Geday has also worked in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri, the Public Defender’s Office in St. Louis, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C., where he advised the National Security Legal Branch and the Directorate of Intelligence on information sharing in the post 9-11 counter-terrorism age.
Mr. Geday graduated from Duke University with a B.S. in Psychology, and from Washington University School of Law, where he was President of the Trial Law Society, Recipient of the William M. Pomerantz Trial Award, and selected for the school’s nationally-renowned Trial Team. He also attended the Inns of Court School of Law in London, England, which for centuries has the time-honored distinction of being the training ground for British barristers (trial attorneys). Born and raised locally as a first generation American of Hungarian descent, he attended Devon Preparatory School on an academic scholarship.
Mr. Geday is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Judiciary Committee, and is Chair of the Magisterial District Justice Committee. He has also served as Vice-Chair of the Juvenile Rules Committee, and continues as a member of the same group. He conducts continuing legal education seminars for lawyers every year.
Time permitting, Mr. Geday enjoys sharing his knowledge of the legal process with students in academia, and has done so at Gwynedd Mercy College and Ursinus College. His personal pursuits include traveling and outdoor sports. An avid martial artist since childhood, he has won numerous regional and national titles, and has competed on the international level many times. Having lived in several continents and traveled to dozens of countries, he is conversationally fluent in Hungarian, proficient in German, and somewhat able in Japanese.
Mr. Geday is prepared to zealously fight in any courtroom to the ultimate degree, but has the skill to negotiate the best outcome for a case when appropriate. He is passionate about advocating for justice, and prides himself on investing his full energy into each of his clients.
