Bucks County to Eliminate Telephone-Based House Arrest

Filed under: Criminal Law, News by Contributor @ September 7, 2014

This past week the Bucks County Commissioners decided to eliminate the traditional house arrest system that uses telephone lines to verify that the person on house arrest is actually at their house. In its place will be a web-based GPS tracking program. Details on this new system are sparse, but Bucks County officials hope that it will lead to more prisoners being placed on house arrest instead of clogging up prisons. As a result, it may become easier for Bucks County residents charged with petty crimes to avoid jail time and serve any necessary jail time from home.
